HCA has already received state approval for Broadlands Regional Medical Center, a 164 bed for-profit hospital located on 58 acres in Ashburn, Vir. HCA still needs the approval of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to move ahead with the hospital.
Inova has attempted several legal challenges to the state's authorization, including requesting interventions from the state Supreme Court, according to the report. Inova has also taken out newspaper ads, used direct mail and supported a grass-roots movement against the HCA hospital. HCA has fought back with its own ads and mailings.
Inova has claimed that the HCA hospital, which would be located five miles from Inova Loudoun, would threaten Inova Loudoun's stability by duplicating services and force the hospital to make cutbacks.

Inova Health System, based in Falls Church, Vir., is aggressively campaigning against plans for an HCA hospital that would compete with its Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Vir., according to the Washington Post.
