Halifax Health's Late Push Fails to Pull Bert Fish Away From Adventist Health

Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., has agreed to merge with Adventist Health System despite a late challenge from Halifax Health, a public health system based in Port Orange, Fla., according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Bert Fish announced its plans to merge with Adventist, parent to Florida Hospital in Orlando, earlier this month. Halifax Health then challenged the planned takeover, offering to match Adventist's $71 million pledge to the ailing hospital.

Halifax Health also offered lower taxes for Bert Fish, but it wasn't enough to change the decision of board members, according to the report.
