Wisconsin pharmacist charged in $1M fraud scheme

Mark Johnson, a pharmacist in Janesville, Wis., was charged in a 46-count indictment Wednesday, according to the Department of Justice.

The indictment charges Mr. Johnson with healthcare fraud, making false statements in a healthcare fraud audit and identity theft.

According to the indictment, Mr. Johnson was the owner and president of Kealey Pharmacy and Home Care in Janesville. From January 2008 to March 2014, he allegedly submitted false claims to Medicare and Medicaid for medication that was not provided to beneficiaries.

The indictment further alleges that Mr. Johnson submitted claims for reimbursement to government payers for false prescription orders he created. He also allegedly lied in responses to an audit conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Mr. Johnson received approximately $1 million from Medicare and Medicaid during the fraud scheme, according to the DOJ.
