Washington physician settles fraud allegations

A Spokane, Wash.-based physician agreed to pay $95,000 to resolve allegations he ordered medically unnecessary durable medical equipment as part of a kickback scheme.

Daniel Case, MD, worked with telemedicine company RediDoc between 2018 and 2019, according to a Jan. 29 Justice Department news release. Two owners of RediDoc in 2022 pleaded guilty to their roles in a $64 million fraud and kickback scheme. In their plea, the owners admitted that RediDoc provided kickbacks to physicians, including Dr. Case, to induce them to sign durable medical equipment orders.

While working with RediDoc, Dr. Case signed orders that resulted in Medicare payments of more than $3.3 million, according to the release. During that time, RediDoc paid him $66,727 for orders he signed.
