UW Medical Foundation, Physicians Plus Agreement Puts End to Lawsuit

Madison-based UW Medical Foundation has reached an agreement with Physicians Plus, putting an end to the insurer's lawsuit, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

Under the agreement, UW physicians will continue to see Physicians Plus patients through the end of 2015. Patient access to the 1,200 physicians within the UW Medical Foundation was in question for all members beginning in 2013, as the foundation said it would stop accepting Physicians Plus members when the payor wouldn't agree to new fees.

Physicians Plus sued the foundation, saying it couldn't restrict patient access. A judge ruled that the foundation's threat was legal, and Physicians Plus appealed that ruling. Last week's contract agreement will end that lawsuit.

The UW Medical Foundation-Physicians Plus contract was set to expire Dec. 31, 2012. The contract will now continue through Dec. 31, 2015.
