Nurse accused of dispensing morphine that led to death

A Utah nurse has been indicted for allegedly distributing and dispensing morphine that led to a person's death last summer.

Earlier this month, Catherine Worman, 33, of Sandy, was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly dispensing morphine that resulted in a person's death June 5 while she was working as a nurse at "a local hospital," according to a Jan. 19 Justice Department news release. Ms. Worman was charged with distribution of morphine resulting in death and was ordered to remain in custody pending trial.

During their investigation into the person's death, a second victim allegedly told Draper (Utah) Police that Ms. Worman "intravenously administered morphine to him without a prescription." The individual told police the morphine made him "extremely ill" and that he feared for his life as a result.

Ms. Worman is also accused of unlawfully obtaining Adderall and trading the medication, based on information federal prosecutors found on her cellphone. "Worman was also illegally obtaining prescription medications from another healthcare worker with whom she was romantically involved," the attorney's office  said.

Draper Police are investigating the case. Ms. Woman's first court appearance on the charges  took place Jan. 19.
