Mississippi Hospital's Lawsuit Alleging Mismanagement by Quorum Health Heads to Trial

The lawsuit filed by Natchez (Miss.) Regional Medical Center against its former operator, Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health Services, will proceed this week in preparation of a Nov. 30 trial date, according to a Natchez Democrat report.

NRMC filed suit in December 2009, claiming Quorum's misrepresentation of the hospital's financial situation resulted in NRMC's filing for bankruptcy in February 2009. Quorum managed the hospital's financial and operational services from 1992 through 2008. NRMC emerged from bankruptcy in September.

A settlement conference has been scheduled for Tuesday, although there is no guarantee any type of settlement will occur, according to the report. If the complaint is not settled, the suit will go to trial with testimony beginning Dec. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. NRMC is seeking $46 million in damages.
