Local lawyers file civil lawsuit contesting Greenville Health System restructuring plan

Several South Carolina lawmakers filed a lawsuit challenging Greenville (S.C.) Health System's decision to give control of the hospital system to various newly formed private corporations, according to CBS5 news.

The hospital's new governance bill gives control of the system to newly formed private corporations, created by the Greenville Health System board, for the sum of $1 per year for the next 100 years, according to the article.

The lawmakers filed a lawsuit against the health system, claiming the board was not acting in the best interest of the public and that the board is acting outside of its legal authority.

A spokesperson for Greenville Health System declined to comment on the lawsuit, according to the article.
