Mount Sinai partners with Estée Lauder's Clinique for dermatology center

Estée Lauder's Clinique cosmetic company has partnered with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City to establish a dermatology center to research skin health.

The Mount Sinai-Clinique Healthy Skin Dermatology Center, announced Feb. 2, will be home to research on the biology of skin aging, allergies and inflammatory disorders, with findings informing Clinique in product development to offer more solutions for those with sensitive skin.

Founded in 1946 in New York City, Clinique is the second largest cosmetics company in the world after L'Oréal. The company has made a philanthropic commitment of $5 million over seven years for the partnership and founding of the Mount Sinai-Clinique Healthy Skin Dermatology Center. The funds will be used to recruit physicians and scientists, advanced equipment, clinical and laboratory space, and key support staff, according to Mount Sinai.

Clinique dermatologists Catherine Orentreich, MD, and David Orentreich, MD, are affiliated with Mount Sinai. Dr. David Orentreich is assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Icahn Mount Sinai, and both physicians are members of the Mount Sinai Dermatology Advisory Board.

News of the dermatology institute came shortly before Estée Lauder announced it is cutting up to 3,000 jobs as part of a restructuring plan, Bloomberg reported Feb. 5.
