Community Health Systems to sell Arkansas hospital

Franklin, Tenn.-based hospital healthcare giant Community Health Systems announced plans to close the sale of 133-bed Newport, Ark.-based Harris Hospital and its outpatient facilities early in the first quarter of 2015, according to Arkansas Business.

Searcy, Ark.-based White County Medical Center plans to buy the facility. The 438-bed medical center operates 11 clinics and with 150 physicians on medical staff.

Additional information on the sale was not disclosed, though CHS said it will have no meaningful impact on financial operations.

CHS has sold three hospitals and bought two more since October, and it completed its acquisition of Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates for $3.6 billion this year. Health Management Associates provides services at 71 hospitals.

CHS owns, operates and leases a total of 207 affiliated hospitals in 29 states.
