3 Health Systems Express Interest in Jameson Health System

Three large health systems have initiated discussions with Jameson Health System in New Castle, Pa., about a potential transaction, according to a New Castle News report.

UPMC and Allegheny Health Network, both based in Pittsburgh, as well as Community Health Systems in Franklin, Tenn., have reached out to Jameson officials, according to the report. It was not disclosed if a potential deal would be a merger, acquisition, joint venture or some other form.

In a statement to the New Castle News, Jameson President and CEO Doug Danko said the organization is "evaluating" all options. While Jameson is "pretty healthy right now," Mr. Danko said healthcare reform is pushing hospitals and health systems to consider other partnerships to align care.

No timeline was given for when a decision would be reached. UPMC and health insurer Highmark, which manages Allegheny Health Network, have been embroiled in a long turf war within the Pittsburgh metro area. CHS recently acquired Sharon (Pa.) Regional Health System, which is approximately 20 miles north of Jameson.
