2 LifePoint hospitals to finalize merger by end of week

Memorial Hospital of Martinsville (Va.) & Henry County, a 223-bed facility, and 250-bed Danville Regional (Va.) Medical Center will officially merge into SOVAH Health by the end of the week, according to WorkItSoVa.com.

Officials from both hospitals, which are owned by Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health, held several meetings during the past two months to finalize the merger. During their most recent meeting July 26, the organizations agreed to merge their medical staffs.

The organizations will continue to operate at their respective locations. However, their signage will be removed and replaced with SOVAH Health branding. Memorial Hospital will become SOVAH Health-Martinsville, while Danville Regional Medical Center will be rebranded as SOVAH Health-Danville.

The hospitals' leadership and administration will also remain in place, though both facilities will experience changes to their executive leadership, officials said. Alan Larson, president of the South Central Virginia Market for LifePoint Health, and president and CEO of Danville Regional, will lead the combined entity. Ross Taylor, MD, will serve as CMO of SOVAH Health, the report states.

LifePoint Health acquired Memorial Hospital and Danville Regional Medical Center in 2005, according to the report.

The organizations initiated merger discussions in 2013 and embarked on an agreement June 8.
