Wheeling Hospital in West Virginia to Buy Physician Practice

Wheeling (W. Va.) Hospital will acquire a primary care practice that operates as a walk-in clinic in Wheeling, according to an Intelligencer report.

Vic Wood, MD, founder of Primary Care One, is selling his practice to the hospital for $1 million but plans to stay on as a physician at the clinic following the sale.

Wheeling Hospital has requested to bypass the West Virginia Health Care Authority's certificate of need process to develop ambulatory facilities by acquiring an already existing walk-in clinic, according to the report.

The state healthcare authority is accepting opposition letters to the hospital's request to forgo a certificate of need and should make a decision soon.

Primary Care One includes two physicians besides Dr. Wood and offers patients physician care, laboratory tests, x-rays and medicine for a monthly fee. That fee does not include hospital care or hospitalization.
