U.S. News & World Report ranks most affordable private medical schools

Average tuition and fees for private medical schools was $51,044 in 2014-2015, according to U.S. News & World Report. That’s a steep price tag: After earning the degree, the average private medical school graduate with student loans has $190,053 of debt, according to AAMC data in the report.

U.S. News and World Report found the following 10 most affordable private medical schools, ranked by lowest tuition and fees for 2014-2015. The average tuition and fees for these schools is $42,251.

  1. Baylor College of Medicine (Houston): $31,618
  2. Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (Erie, Pa.): $32, 510
  3. University of Pikeville (Ky.): $40,120
  4. Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (Blacksburg, Va., and Spartanburg, S.C.): $42,500
  5. University of Miami Miller School of Medicine: $42,610
  6. Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (Cumberland Gap, Tenn.): $44,320
  7. Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (New York): $45,950
  8. Howard University (Washington, D.C.): $46, 838
  9. Mayo Medical School (Rochester, Minn.): $47,470
  10. Rocky Vista University (Parker, Colo.): $48,578
