NCQA to Release Standards for Private-Payor ACOs in July

The National Committee for Quality Assurance has completed pilot-testing of private-payor accountable care organizations and will issue accreditation standards for them in July, according to a release by the NCQA.

A month-long pilot test involving providers, which just ended, was the last step in a year-long series of pilots, which the NCQA will consult to complete the final accreditation standards that are expected in July.

The final pilot analyzed whether organizations could reasonably collect and submit information for the program. Participants for the collaborative, consensus-based pilot included integrated delivery systems, independent practice associations and multi-specialty group practices.

The IDSes were Gundersen Lutheran of La Crosse, Wis., Health Partners of Minneapolis and Prevea Health of Green Bay, Wis., part of the Hospital Sisters Health System. The IPAs were Montefiore Medical Center IPA of Bronx and Westchester, N.Y., Mount Auburn Cambridge IPA of Boston, Northwest Physicians Network of Tacoma, Wash., and San Juan IPA of Farmington, N.M. The multi-specialty groups were Billings (Mont.) Clinic, HealthCare Partners of Torrance, Calif., and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic of Houston.

NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of healthcare organizations and recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance.
