MEDNAX acquires 27-physician anesthesiology practice

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based national medical group MEDNAX announced today the acquisition of its fourth anesthesiology practice in Tennessee, Memphis-based Metropolitan Anesthesia Alliance.

Metropolitan Anesthesia Alliance, which employs 27 anesthesiologists and 46 anesthetists, became part of MEDNAX's American Anesthesiology division on Dec. 31, 2014. It was the eighth addition to the division last year, according to the report.

The private practice provides services at Baptist Memorial Health Care facilities for general surgery, cardiac, vascular, orthopedic, neurosurgery and spine surgery, obstetric, pediatric and acute pain management.

The acquisition was a cash transaction and will be accretive to earnings immediately, according to the report. Further details were not disclosed.
