La. primary care clinic closes abruptly for investigation

Monroe, La.-based Primary Health Services Center was shut down for what appeared to be a surprise investigation Wednesday, according to a report from local news station KNOE 8 News.

The ABC affiliate reported employees were escorted off the premises Wednesday and police officers asked patients to leave. Patients said they saw search warrants on the walls of the facility, according to the report.

Though no information is available as to what spurred the investigation, a statement provided by the state attorney general suggested the investigation may be related to Medicaid fraud. The Attorney General's Office provided KNOE the following statement: "I cannot confirm or deny any investigation. However, I can tell you that Attorney General Jeff Landry takes Medicaid fraud seriously and is committed to protecting the state's valuable resources and bringing to justice those who defraud the taxpayers."

In a statement provided to the news station, Primary Health Services Center said it was surprised by the investigation and unaware of any wrongdoing. "PHSC has always cooperated with all state and federal agencies and it will continue to do so. Despite today's interruption, PHSC remains committed to its mission of serving its patients and looks forward to resuming full operations as quickly as possible," the statement reads.
