CMS to Create ACO Claims Database

CMS will create a database of claims information on beneficiaries who receive treatment from providers participating in accountable care organizations, according to a Healthcare Finance News report.

Data will be used to "support policy activities and reimbursement for its programs to bundle payments and share savings," according to the report. The data will include some identifying information, but it will only be disclosed for determining the eligibility of ACO applicants and to meet reporting requirements.

The database will become effective Oct. 19, according to the report.
