Cleveland Clinic, Piedmont Heart Institute partner up

Piedmont Heart Institute, part of Atlanta-based Piedmont Health, has partnered with Cleveland Clinic for a specialty quality alliance, according to an Atlanta Business Chronicle report.

Piedmont will use the relationship to strengthen its quality for cardiovascular medicine and surgery, according to the report. The two systems will also share clinical policies, treatment protocols and research opportunities.

In the Atlanta area, Piedmont Heart Institute is competing against Northside Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute and Gwinnett Medical Center's Strickland Heart Center, according to the report.

"As we sought high quality alliance members, we assessed Piedmont Heart Institute's cardiac programs, infrastructure, resources and outcomes to ensure the system could provide comparable quality vital to our mission," said Joseph Cacchione, MD, cardiologist and chairman of Operations and Strategy at Cleveland Clinic's Heart & Vascular Institute. He said the alliance will strengthen the delivery of "world-class care" to patients who live in Georgia and the southeast.
