Cigna, Partners in Care Launch ACO in New Jersey
Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna and New Brunswick, N.J.-based Partners in Care, an independent physician organization, have launched an accountable care organization in New Jersey. The ACO is focused on roughly 14,000 Cigna beneficiaries. Approximately 360 Partners in Care physicians will serve as clinical care coordinators and use patient-specific data provided by Cigna. This information will help identify which patients are at risk for readmission, along with patients who might be overdue for health screenings or prescription refills.
Physicians may be rewarded through a pay-for-performance structure if they meet targets for improving quality and lowering medical costs.
