Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, N.M., has entered into a five-year professional services agreement with New Mexico Cancer Center Associates and will close its cancer wing as part of the deal, according to a Santa Fe New Mexican report.
Under the deal, which consolidates the two's cancer services, New Mexico Cancer Care Associates will provide both chemotherapy and radiation services at its main clinic. The hospital currently only provides radiation treatments, and as part of the agreement, the hospital will pay the cancer clinic a fee to take over this service. The move to affiliate the former competitors is intended to improve cancer services and avoid layoffs, according to the report.
