AMA launches online education modules to guide physicians through value-based care transition

The American Medical Association Monday unveiled eight new online modules to help guide physicians as they adopt value-based payment models.

The new modules are hosted on the AMA's "STEPS Forward" website, which is a free series of interactive educational modules for physicians looking to redesign or streamline their practice. The newly added modules include one developed by Grace Terrell, MD, the president of High Point, N.C.-based Cornerstone Health Care, on the specific steps her clinic took to make patients the center of care. Other new modules examine medical assistant professional development, care transition teams, health coaching, advance care planning, patient registration, quality improvement and point of care registries.

"With physicians facing critical decisions about new payment models, the AMA is rolling out tools to help practices of all sizes succeed and support better health outcomes for everyone," AMA President Steven Stack, MD, said in a statement. "The AMA's new, comprehensive online resources will help physicians drive successful implementation as insurers introduce new payment models that reward better outcomes and treatment coordination."

The AMA has also released a host of resources as physicians prepare for changes under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, available here.
