University of Maryland School of Medicine Begins $200M Proton Treatment Center

The University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore announced the groundbreaking of a more than $200 million proton treatment center.

The 110,000-square-foot building will house the only proton treatment center in the Baltimore-Washington region and will be located in the University of Maryland BioPark on the university's founding campus. The School of Medicine's radiation oncology practice plan — the University of Maryland Radiation Oncology Associates P.A. — will provide clinical management and therapeutic services at the center.

The Maryland Proton Treatment Center will create 175 permanent jobs and will be able to treat approximately 2,000 patients annually. The building will also include space for retail.
