Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care Partners With Boston Medical Center to Offer New Clinical Trials

Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care in Fall River, Mass., and Fairhaven, Mass., part of New Bedford, Mass.-based Southcoast Health System, is partnering with Boston Medical Center to offer new clinical trials to Southcoast cancer patients.

The Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care Clinical Trials program was established in May 2011 to allow local patients to participate in trials testing new and developing treatments for cancer, according to the release.

The new relationship designates the cancer centers as affiliate sites of the National Cancer Institute Minority-Based Community Clinical Oncology Program, allowing the centers' oncologists to participate in NCI-sponsored cancer prevention, control and treatment clinical trials.

According to the release, initial studies through the new affiliation will test treatments for breast cancer and colon cancer, among other chronic diseases. In addition to the studies, the Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care will offer trials testing new medications and supportive measures for patients with cancer.
