Saint Thomas Health in Tennessee Opens Ventricular Assist Device Center, Plans to Expand Imaging

Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., has opened the Saint Thomas Heart Ventricular Assist Device Center, according to a hospital news release.

The center is one of only 33 dedicated VAD centers in the United States and was created to meet the needs of the community. The hospital more than doubled its growth in VAD implants in one year, hospital President and CEO Dawn Rudolph said in the release.

In addition, Saint Thomas Health has filed a certificate of need request to build a roughly $4 million outpatient diagnostic center at Saint Thomas Hospital, according to a Nashville Business Journal report. The 7,700-square-foot center would include radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging, CT scanning, ultrasound imaging and MRI services.

Saint Thomas Health has also filed a certificate of need request to acquire PET/CT equipment at Baptist Hospital in Nashville and offer PET/CT services at the cost of $895,000.
