Parkway Medical Center Moves Services to Decatur General to Coordinate Care

Decatur (Ala.) Morgan Hospital's Parkway campus, called Parkway Medical Center, is moving its obstetrics program to Decatur (Ala.) General Hospital in January, according to an Alabama Live report.

The move is part of the hospitals' efforts to coordinate care following their consolidation in August. Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital acquired Parkway Medical Center last year and Decatur General Hospital in August. Huntsville Hospital is operating the two hospitals as one unit called Decatur Morgan Hospital.

The Parkway campus will also transfer its intensive care and medical-surgical units to Decatur General over the next two years, according to the report. Consolidating inpatient services in one location is designed to improve efficiency and attract more patients.

Parkway will keep its emergency room, diagnostic testing services and medical laboratory, and will possibly offer some outpatient surgery, according to the report.
