Piedmont creates new executive-level role

Mary Kane, BSN, RN, was selected as the inaugural chief nursing informatics officer for Atlanta-based Piedmont.

Ms. Kane began the newly created position in December, according to a March 11 news release from the health system.

"At Piedmont, one of our values is to embrace the future. New technology with the potential to make us more accurate and efficient in healthcare delivery is here, and we need to be prepared," Lacy Knight, MD, chief health informatics officer at Piedmont, said in the release. "Adding the role of CNIO to our leadership team will ensure we thoughtfully balance the risks and opportunities that come with introducing innovative technology in a healthcare setting."

Prior to joining Piedmont, Ms. Kane served as managing principal-healthcare for Northridge Group, a management consulting firm based in Rosemont, Ill. She also previously served as system vice president and chief clinical informatics officer at Advocate Aurora Health, which is now part of Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health, and as vice president and regional chief nursing informatics officer at Catholic Health Initiatives (now Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health).
