Atlanta hospital names Heather Dexter CEO: 5 things to know

Atlanta-based Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital has named Heather Dexter CEO, effective Oct. 23, according to a report from neighbornewspapers.com.

Here are five things to know about Ms. Dexter.

1. She will take over for Dane Peterson, interim CEO of Emory Saint Joseph's and president of Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare.

2. She has served as COO of Emory Saint Joseph's since 2011.

3. Before serving as COO, she served in a number of other capacities at the hospital, including interim director in both human resources and radiology; division director in clinical services; vice president of planning, development and allied health; and vice president of surgical services and planning. She was also executive project manager during the formation of the joint operating company between Saint Joseph's Hospital and Emory Healthcare.

4. She has been part of a number of accomplishments at Emory Saint Joseph's. According to the report, the hospital has brought on new programs and physicians, developed patient-focused initiatives, continued expansion with the construction of an orthopedic joint and spine center and completed several successful accreditation and certification surveys.

5. Ms. Dexter earned master's degrees in business administration and health administration from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She also completed a healthcare delivery executive education program at Boston-based Harvard Business School, according to the report.
