CFO Jim Spear: Spearheading Finances of the New Cadence Health

Earlier this year, Delnor Health System in Geneva, Ill., and Central DuPage Health in Winfield, Ill., announced their new merged system would be known as Cadence Health — and for CFO Jim Spear, that meant tackling new financial initiatives.

Jim Spear is CFO of Cadence Health.Mr. Spear has been the CFO of CDH, and now Cadence Health, since January 2006, and he has also served on various roles within CDH, including vice chair of the board of directors and chair of the audit and finance committee.

He currently oversees the financial operations of the newly created health system in the Western Chicagoland suburbs, and both main hospitals have established their fiscal stability. In fiscal year 2011, Central DuPage Hospital provided $114 million in community benefit, and last month, Delnor Hospital received a credit upgrade on its bonds from A to A+ from Standard & Poor's.

Before joining CDH, Mr. Spear owned and operated a business specializing in advising boards of directors on financial matters, and he first began his professional financial career with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Keebler Foods.
