CFO Chris Ellington: Financial Accolades at UNC Health Care
With 803 beds and an operating budget hovering around $1 billion, Chris Ellington has a lot to handle as CFO of UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Two years ago, Mr. Ellington became one of 17 finance chiefs to win a "CFO of the Year" award from the Triangle Business Journal, an award that honored those with "a remarkable track record of professional achievements and non-profit involvement."
Upon receiving the award, Mr. Ellington told the Triangle Business Journal about his leadership ability when he first arrived at UNC Health Care in 2008. "As the new CFO, I was charged with leading leadership team members and management collectively to address the potential economic and budgetary implications that we faced," he said in the report. "Our team elected to adopt a 'no layoffs' approach for our 7,000 staff members during this clearly uncertain time. Together, we worked hard to balance cash flows to ensure our team members could focus on our patients while not having to worry about their next paycheck."
Previously, Mr. Ellington was CFO of Appalachian Regional Healthcare in Lexington, Ky., and he has served in other executive financial positions at hospitals in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and West Virginia.
Mr. Ellington also serves on the North Carolina Hospital Association's policy development committee.
