CEO Charles Martin Jr.: Wealth of Knowledge Leading Vanguard Health Systems

Charles Martin Jr. has served as Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems' chairman and CEO since the company's inception in 1997. Backed by Blackstone Group since 2004, Vanguard has been a major player in the healthcare merger and acquisition market.As president and CEO, Mr. Martin was integral to Vanguard's acquisition of Detroit Medical Center in December 2010. Mr. Martin has also played a key role in leading Vanguard to stay at the forefront of the healthcare industry in pursing new and better ways of providing quality healthcare.

Mr. Martin has a wealth of knowledge and experience in healthcare and business industries. Prior to forming Vanguard, he served as chairman, president and CEO of OrNda HealthCorp. Under his leadership, OrNda grew its revenue from $450 million to $3 billion in four years to become the nation's third largest investor-owned hospital management company. His career also includes serving as president, director and COO of HealthTrust, a hospital company, as well as executive vice president and director of Hospital Corporation of America. He has also served as COO and director of General Care Corp.
