The Georgia Department of Community Health and partner Truven Health Analytics have jointly announced the launch of the Georgia Health Information Network, a statewide health information exchange.

The information on the HIE comes from electronic medical records, healthcare claims, Georgia Medicaid, Public Health Georgia Registry for Immunization Services and other sources, and aims to provide real-time longitudinal patient information at the point of care.

"Implementing a statewide health information exchange network brings us closer to our goals for improving care, reducing healthcare costs and streamlining communication throughout our state’s healthcare organizations," said Kelly Gonzalez, chief of DCH Division of Health IT and the Georgia State Health IT coordinator, in the news release. "We are very excited about the launch of the GaHIN."
