Physicians' Top 3 Internet Challenges

Physicians are increasingly turning to the Internet to find Web-based resources to help them in their clinical decision-making, such as online case studies or research reports. However, the parallel uptick in patients' use of the Internet to find medical information is putting strain on physicians' relationships with patients, according to a survey from MedData Group.

A survey of 164 U.S. physicians revealed their top reported challenges when it comes to the Internet:

  • 58 percent said patients often misinterpret information gathered online, putting strain on their relationships with their physicians
  • 51 percent said the information their patients read online often contains inaccuracies
  • 14 percent said the Internet has made it more difficult to protect patient information
  • 36 percent said all of the above were a concern
