Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to implement Omnicell Medication Automation

Omnicell, an automation and business analytics software company, announced Jan. 26 that MemorialSloanKetteringCancerCenter in New York City would use its medication automation system.

Memorial Sloan Kettering, the world's oldest and largest private cancer center, will receive OmniRx automated medication dispensing cabinets, which allow nurses to print labels directly from the cabinet that are specific to the patient and use a biometric ID system for security. The center will also use a Controlled Substance Manager, which helps to regulate and track narcotic use more closely, an OmniDispenser single-dose dispensing module and a Medication Carousel automated pharmacy retrieval system that will complement the WorkflowRx pharamacy inventory management software program that the center also selected.

Memorial Sloan Kettering will also implement Omnicell's Anywhere RN remote medication management software, a web application that allows nurses to access the dispensing cabinets from anywhere in the hospital.

"We are extremely proud to be working with Memorial Sloan Kettering and supporting their world class clinical care teams with solutions that enable the best possible care," said Chris Drew, executive vice president and field operations at Omnicell in a news release. "To be associated with this center is an honor that further fuels our passion for developing future innovations to advance the great work of pharmacists and nurses at hospitals around the world."
