A new Illinois state law will require all state employees reporting to Gov. Bruce Rauner, R, to undergo annual cybersecurity training.
The law (HB 2371), which exempts public university employees, hopes to educate workers on the risks, threats and best practices necessary to defend against cyberthreats. The law is part of Mr. Rauner's vision for a cyber-secure Illinois.
The Department of Innovation & Technology is tasked with implementing the training program, as well as the recently released State of Illinois Cybersecurity Strategy. The strategy seeks to enhance Illinois information and systems protection, reduce cyber risk and increase cybersecurity capabilities.
Illinois is the 15th state to mandate cybersecurity training for state employees.
