Federal Panel Asked for Feedback on Potential Online Verification Hub for Health Insurance Exchanges

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is recruiting the help of a federal advisory panel about potential models of an online verification hub that would be used in support of health insurance exchanges among states, according to a Government Health IT news report.

The online hub would be used to perform verification functions for determining insurance eligibility and enrollment. The hub is important, as states are required to build health insurance exchanges by 2014 as a part of the new healthcare reform law. CMS has yet to determine what sorts of verification functions the hub would include, according to the news report.

The Health IT Policy Committee has already endorsed a panel's proposals that states use existing infrastructures to verify enrollment and eligibility information for those applying for health programs.
