CVS unveils digital pharmacy tools

CVS Health, based in Woonsocket, R.I., has released a new suite of digital health tools to assist pharmacy customers in improving their medication adherence and reduce overall healthcare costs.

The new suite includes five tools centered on the pharmacy.

  • The CVS/pharmacy mobile app is now integrated with the Apple Watch, so customers can receive notifications when prescriptions are ready and submit refills.
  • Another tool allows customers to submit a photo of written prescriptions through the CVS/caremark mobile app to jumpstart the prescription fill process.
  • Users can also submit photos of their insurance cards to update that data.
  • The CVS/pharmacy iPhone app features a new MedRemind function which users can customize to provide reminders to take prescriptions.
  • And, customers can now receive push notifications if prescriptions are ready when they come into the store.

"Our digital innovation model is the synthesis of strategic partnership and rapid experimentation, and this new suite of tools — some of the first to emerge from our digital innovation lab — shows how effective our approach can be," said Brian Tilzer, senior vice president and chief digital officer for CVS Health. "By addressing real problems, including medication adherence, through digital tools that are designed to make tasks easier and more convenient, we’re supporting our overall company strategy — to help people live healthier lives."
