CMS Releases Reference Grids for Meaningful Use, Standards and Certification Criteria

To help navigate meaningful use as well as standards and certification criteria final rules, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information developed grids that capture the meaningful use objectives, measures and exclusions, and the correlated certification criteria and standards.

According to the report, the first main column of the grid references meaningful use objectives and measures, and serves as the anchor for the rest of the grid. The core set objectives and measures are listed first followed by the menu set objectives and measures. The second column references the certification criteria that correlate with each meaningful use objective and measure.

There is also a combined version of the grid, which includes colored text to identify certification criteria that are specific to ambulatory or inpatient settings, and to emphasize wording nuances that are unique to an ambulatory or inpatient certification criterion. The grid also shows certification criteria that are the same for both settings.
