CHIME: 50% Drop in Number of CIOs Confident in Meeting Meaningful Use

A recent survey conducted by the College of Health Information Management Executives revealed a 50 percent drop in the number of CIOs who expect their organizations to qualify early for stimulus funding for implementing electronic health records, according to an organization news release.

Results from the survey show that implementation of computerized provider order entry has become one of the more difficult objectives to achieve. More than half of surveyed CIOs identified CPOE as the biggest challenge in increasing clinician adoption.

Other key findings include the following:

•    CIOs from community hospitals appear far less confident than they appeared in an August CHIME survey.
•    Fifteen percent of respondents said they expect to qualify for stimulus funding in the first six months of FY 2011, compared to 28 percent who believed they could qualify for the funding by April 2011.
•    Ten percent of respondents, the same percentage as the previous survey, reported their organizations will not qualify for stimulus funds until FY 2013 or 2014.
