More and more healthcare organizations are using virtual desktop infrastructure, according to a report from IT security firm Imprivata.
The report contains the following findings from a survey of 211 IT professionals in healthcare organizations:
- In 2013, 75 percent of organizations used server-based computing and 57 percent used server-hosted virtual desktops. Compared with the 2012 survey, SBC use increased 23 percent and SHVD use increased 39 percent.
- A significant number, 49 percent, of organizations use a mix of SBC and SHVD.
- A majority of SBC respondents with no plans to move to SHVD said SBC met their current needs.
- Thin clients are becoming the most popular choice for VDI endpoint devices, and mobile devices are increasingly being used.
- An increasing number of SBC and SHVD users use a combination of single sign on and strong authentication to help increase security and improve efficiency for end users.
