5 Steps to Take for Recovery After a Data Breach

Here are five steps for response and recovery after a data breach has occurred, according to a 1to1 Media report.

1to1 Media is a division of Peppers & Rogers Group, a management consulting firm.

1. Set up an immediate response team. A cross-departmental team, including PR professionals and IT experts, are best placed to understand what a breach entails and how to respond to one.

2. Make a plan and test it. Organizations should look at any previous data breaches that have occurred either at their organization or others, and make a plan based on how those were addressed. They should be able to fall back on this plan when a breach occurs.

3. Create a checklist. Organizations should create a checklist of steps to follow when a data breach occurs.

4. Keep customers informed. Organizations need to communicate with their customers about data breaches because letting them find out from other sources is one way of losing their trust.

5. Follow up outlining future precautions. It is also important that organizations let their customers know what they will do to avoid data breaches in the future to regain their trust.
