Stewards of Change Institute, an advocacy and research nonprofit focused on health and human services, and AcademyHealth, a health services and policy research organization, partnered to create the National Interoperability Collaborative, a new center that aims to advance data-sharing practices in healthcare.
The Kresge Foundation provided a $1.2 million grant in seed funding for the NIC. One of the center's primary goals is to create information-sharing partnerships to benefit vulnerable and underserved areas in the U.S. The NIC will also build on the healthcare industry's established knowledge base to provide guidance and facilitate data sharing and interoperability standards.
The center's first step will comprise aggregating existing guidance from the ONC and the National Governors Association, among other stakeholders.
"The National Interoperability Collaborative will fill the information system gap between the health and human services sectors," said David Fukuzawa, managing director of Kresge's Health and Human Services Programs. "With the leadership from Stewards of Change and AcademyHealth, we have a unique opportunity to learn how we can increase best practices and collaborate for better outcomes for those we serve."
