Mercyhealth asks city to waive $200k in building fees for new hospital project

Mercyhealth in Rockford, Ill., seeks to waive some city fees related to construction of its Women's and Children's Hospital and Medical Center, according to a Rockford Register Star report.

The health system is asking the city to waive subdivision application and inspection fees, which were not part of a $900,000 cap on city building permit fees for the project, according to the report. The cap was previously approved by the Rockford City Council.

Now, Mercyhealth wants the city to waive the additional $200,000 in subdivision application and inspection fees, and is asking for an amendment that states "any and all fees due to the city of Rockford for the construction of the hospital and clinic, campus and road project" be capped at $900,000, reports the Rockford Register Star.

The city's planning and development committee is expected to consider the hospital's request in the coming weeks, Planning & Development Committee Chairman Tim Durkee said, according to the report.
