Georgia Republican Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a "bed tax" measure into law to avoid a roughly $900 million gap in Medicaid funding, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution blog.
Here are three things to know.
1. Gov. Deal signed Senate Bill 70 into law after both chambers quickly approved the measure, according to the report.
2. The measure allows the Department of Community Health board to continue to impose a hospital provider fee, known as "bed tax," for another three years. The legislation was first established in 2010.
3. The measure requires hospitals to pay 1.45 percent of their net patient revenue which the state then uses to help fund Medicaid and bolster hospitals that provide care to uninsured patients.
