BayCare Health System takes hit on investments in 2014

Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System reported net income of $357.6 million in 2014, down from $631.8 million the year prior.

The system's operating revenue increased to nearly $3 billion last year, up from about $2.6 billion in 2013.

BayCare's expenses also grew in 2014, increasing to $2.7 billion from $2.4 billion the preceding year. The system's supply costs grew from $451.9 million in 2013 to $525.1 million last year.

The system's lower net income was also due to its investment income falling to $129.5 million in 2014 from $257.1 million the preceding year.
