Coos Bay, Ore.-based Bay Area Hospital notified patients of a phone scam targeting nearby community members, according to The World.
Hospital officials said during the past four weeks, an impersonator claiming to be a hospital representative has phoned several community members and offered to consolidate their medical bills and improve their debt.
Although the scammer is using a Bay Area Hospital caller ID, officials told patients the call is not originating from the hospital. They suggest individuals receiving the call report the incident to authorities and avoid sharing personal information with the scammers, the report states.
