Indian River Medical Center eyes $100M expansion plan in 2017

Vero Beach, Fla.-based Indian River Medical Center will set its sights on a $100 million expansion and renovation project in 2017, reports TCPalm.

The hospital's board of directors will start investigating expansion and modernization options in the new year, according to the report.

"We know we need to modernize while maintaining bed capacity," CEO Jeff Susi said during a December Hospital District board meeting. "Our existing rooms are small and uninviting, and we need to look at what the options are."

Since expanding the size of inpatient rooms in the facility would reduce the bed count, IRMC officials are instead considering the construction of an additional wing that would connect to the existing hospital structure, according to the report.

Once a plan is finalized, Mr. Susi said the project would take about five years to complete.
