Hospital Execs Lead Non-Profit Pay in East Tennessee

Out of all the non-profit organizations in Eastern Tennessee, executive compensation is highest at hospitals and health systems, according to a Knoxville News Sentinel report.

Three hospital and health system CEOs had the highest overall compensation for Knoxville, Tenn.-area non-profits. Here are the compensation and organizational expense figures, which were taken from each organization's most recent tax filings:

•    Anthony Spezia, CEO of Covenant Health:

Compensation:  $1.61 million
Total health system expenses:  $85.36 million
Compensation as a percent of total expenses:  1.88 percent

•    Joseph Landsman, president and CEO of University Health System and the University of Tennessee Medical Center:

Compensation:  $1.23 million
Total health system expenses:  $549.06 million
Compensation as a percent of total expenses:  0.22 percent

•    Keith Goodwin, CEO of East Tennessee Children's Hospital:

Compensation:  $471,626
Total health system expenses:  $142.13 million
Compensation as a percent of total expenses:  0.33 percent
