Anesthesiologists, Surgeons Top List of Highest-Paying Jobs

Anesthesiologists and general surgeons make more money on average than any other profession in the country, followed closely by emergency room physicians, obstetricians/gynecologists and psychiatrists, according to reports by CNN Money and Young Money.

The medical industry dominated the two lists, accounting for seven of the top 10 spots on CNN Money's list and nine of the top 10 spots on Young Money's list. The non-medical positions on the two lists were CEOs, product management directors, software engineering/development directors and sales directors.

Anesthesiologists topped the CNN Money list and came in second on the Young Money list, with a reported median pay of $290,000 and a top pay of $393,000, according to CNN Money. The Young Money list placed anesthesiologists at number two with an average salary of $211,750 in 2009.

Surgeons earned the number one spot on the Young Money list, making an average annual salary of $219,770 in 2009.
