Managed Care Demonstration From Massachusetts Approved by CMS

Massachusetts has finalized a deal with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to test the agency's capitated financial alignment model for Medicare-Medicaid dual eligible beneficiaries, according to Healthcare Finance News.

Massachusetts' demonstration will focus on dual eligible people from 21 to 64 and emphasize independent living support and community-based organizations. CMS looks to streamline and improve its treatment of this population.

This will mark Massachusetts' first attempt at managed care, and it was the first state to get CMS approve for a demonstration plan. Approximately 111,000 people in the state are dual eligibles and will be passively enrolled in the plan with the ability to opt out.
